Doc Fullmer - Love Canal and Deepwater Horizon oil spill

I attached the Deepwater Horizon oil spill article and asked this question:

In your opinion are environmental hazards something we should be concerned about on a daily basis?

I don’t really think that we should have to worry about them on a daily basis because we have a lot of other things to worry about that are more directly correlated with our daily lives. We aren’t impacted nearly enough to have to worry about these things every day, but it is something that people who have jobs that involve the environment should worry about because it is their job to do so. –Claire Smith

Yes, but I would change the “concerned” to “aware” because I each individual has different health needs.  For instance a person with asthma would need to be aware of current air conditions.  We all need to be aware so we can do our part to help reduce whatever hazards we can. - Brian

Yes, because a healthy environment is very important to the wellbeing of all living organisms, humans included. If we aren’t always careful and concerned about these hazards more accidents will happen and ecosystems could be damaged, which could lead to more wide spread problems. – Mikyn Rehder

Tiffny Weighall No because we elect people and support businesses to worry about them so we can take care of the more mundane tasks like the oil/cereal/dish soap spill on my kitchen floor. Doesn't mean I don't care, but I'm not a policy maker

Regen Rehder Knoebel This is a weird question. As a regular person, I don't think it's something I have to worry about on a daily basis.

Zachary Larsen It all depends on where you live. In the U.S. the majority of environmental hazards are prevented and those that aren't are usually cleaned up quickly and safely, however in other countries with lower standards it may be a daily concern...

Cassie Bingham Yes, of course. We should be concerned about all issues that have the potential to affect our life quality - and saying that policy makers should be the only one's concerned, really? Do we want to have highly centralized government and policies dependent on the small elite sector of business executives, or should citizen opinion be valued? How can my opinion be valued if I don't research what the best opinion is to have? And how can that research be done if I have no concern for the topic?

Tara Radmall Yes, Doc Fullmer taking a leak (environmental hazard) on public property is something we need to be concerned about on a daily basis…

Regen Rehder Knoebel Matt says, ”not me. I've got enough things to worry about.”

These are my answers to the questions:
Environmental tragedies still exist today; what can we do today to mitigate these problems.
We can be more careful and safe when we work with hazardous materials as necessary.-Me
Were you aware that environmental tragedies of this magnitude still exist today?
Not really, but it’s kind of expected because you can’t prevent everything because accidents can and will always happen.-Me
In your opinion are environmental hazards something we should be concerned about on a daily basis?
I would say so because at any time if someone messes up or doesn’t do their job correctly, my family and others could be devastated economically and physically.-Me
