Environmental tragedies still exist today; what can we do today to mitigate these problems?

Comments:
Sue Garcia-I think people need to have more personal responsibility.  I feel like that is the biggest problem.  If we all took care and disposed of our trash the right way, there would be less/none of it getting into our lakes and oceans.
Mike Garcia-I think you could encourage people to refill water bottles rather than throwing them away.
Kaylee Christensen-If there was an efficient way to implement punishment, like a fine, for those who were polluting, that'd be sweet.
Nate Stoven- increase the amount that we recycle.
Stanley Lu- We could decrease the use of plastic products and implement marketing strategies to increase awareness.
Ace Phillips-Raise more awareness about recycling importance
Tanner Whitworth-We just need to recycle more and take care of our trash
Teagan Raher-Come up with a filtering system so plastic particles are less likely to get into the lake, like a sanitary process for water to go through before/if it is getting pumped back into the lake.
Lindsey Aoyama- Use more efficient resources to make our products more eco-friendly.
Josh Baum-We can recycle more and cut down on our plastic use/products made of plastic.

My own reactions:
Environmental tragedies still exist today; what can we do today to mitigate these problems?
We can take care of our trash and where we dispose of it.  This will dramatically reduce the amount of plastic particles that end up in the Ocean or Great Lakes.

In your opinion are environmental hazards something we should be concerned about on a daily basis?
Yes, for the most part they aren't sudden, dramatic tragedies that the whole country notices, but day by day, these environmental tragedies are worsening and we have to look ahead to avoid future/more dramatic problems.

Were you aware that environmental tragedies of this magnitude still exist today?
Yes, but it often has slipped to the back of my mind.  I know things are going on, but because it doesn't immediately affect me at that time, it's often pushed to the bottom of my priority list.
