Rachel Dewey-- Love Canal Assignment
To what degree do environmental tragedies affect you/your family on a day to day basis? The degree that environmental tragedies affect my family is very low and based on more of a seasonal basis than a day to day-- flooding. But it is something serious when it does occur, and preventions to mitigate the affects of flooding are done throughout the year.

Environmental tragedies still exist today; what can we do today to mitigate these problems?  When consequences are unknown research should be done before the action that is followed by consequence if performed in order to avoid incidences like this in the problem.

Why should we care about something that happened over 30 years ago? Because history repeats itself, we can learn from our past mistakes so as to avoid them in the future. This is an essential key to progressing.

The following are reactions to my article and the love canal article:
1.)  Didn't the government suspect anything when they bought the property for a 1$?? seems to me this whole ordeal could have been prevented.
2.)  As important as it is to take precautions against environmental hazards,  as someone who works in oil drilling, I know first hand what a pain it is to get through such regulations, in our attempt to simply provide resources. Some of the rules are good, but a lot of them we could do without.
3.) That's terrible! I can't believe they tried to cover it up like nothing happened!
4.) The question is, if they knew then what they know now (the outcome of turning a waste land into a community) would they do it again? My bet is no--> i know.. pessimistic but it's true!
5.) I just think it's funny that if we don't know the outcome of something we sometimes think, if we pour a bunch of dirt on top of it all our troubles will go away.
6.) I think that what happened was terrible of course, everyone who was affected by these environmental issues should be recompensated for all damages that occurred and then some. But I agree with Brian, with so many rules and regulations I can't even build a waste deposit on my own land, that I've owned for over 30 years now without having to get permission from someone who knows nothing about land management and pay a fee. Some rules are important, but some are just common sense!
7.) That is so terrible, who on Earth do these people think they are??
8.) This is the kind of thing that makes me want to live on an island, in the middle of nowhere. Some people…
9.) These are very interesting articles. Thank you for posting. We all need to be more involved with the Environment.
10.) Rules and regulations are what keep us safe. I don't care how long it takes you to get done what you want to get done, but getting it done safely is whats important.
