Ellen Stone

The following are reactions to my article and the love canal article:

That is not right… so unfair.

While I realize there are bigger issues in the world, how has this been able to slip for this long?? Is there not someone regulating safety and following the rules? How do other countries even let us in with these kind of things and motives?

Sad, disheartening, disappointing….come on America, we can do better.
people need to be aware that there are evident repercussions to the environmental mess we’ve created.

Why is America such a bully?

So sad… how has this not been stopped yet.

Hey, Obama, you might want to get on that.

Businesses claiming to be electronics recyclers continue to ship broken computers, monitors and other devices to impoverished Third World countries to be dumped.  What are we going to do about it??

Carthinogens should be illegal.

Granted this is wrong, but what else are we supposed to do with these pieces that are no longer working that are being trashed in massed quantities?

Why should we care about something that happened over 30 years ago?

It is the things that have happened from times long ago that are effecting US now! The problems often are not easily discovered and lie dormant and therefore unresolved, ever growing.  It is us and now that needs to head the change because it can not be pushed off to the future any longer as it is continually getting worse and worse.  Thirty years ago it could have been a simple issue if resolved the right way.  Now it has negatively impacted so many innocent people with life long trials that were altogether not their fault and totally unnecessary.

Were you aware that environmental tragedies of this magnitude still exist today?

I knew that there were plenty of protection agency and regulations that protect our health.  I suppose this lured me into a false sense of security thinking that there was no way that these things could be still going on. And that could be the very problem with society.  We are all unaware of the spectacular issue we are facing and the perpetual problem it is because we hear of so many agency and tight rules that we don't realize what a real concern we are facing.  We can not be complacent and allow ourselves to be ignorant.  Change is needed- and quickly.  I was not aware that these issues were not in some way, by someone being prevented.

Do you believe that environmental crises affect you/your family today?

It would be foolish for anyone to thing that they were entirely unaffected by environmental crises.  The effects are long lasting and far reaching.  They have been coming for a long time now and as the current expanding technological world grows, so do the problems of waste if we do not adequately take care of them.  It is scary to think that we are not altogether safe anywhere, but it is what we as humanity are doing to our own planet out of laziness or ignorance.
