Washing Your Hands= Public Health. When BYU students wash their hands they are being healthy. If students wash their hands then BYU can equal Public Health also! Washing hands helps prevent viruses and diseases from spreading.

BYU Duck Pond = Public Health

If you live on the south side of school, you might pass the BYU Duck Pond every day like I do on my way to class. This serene little pond is a sensitive habitat that is guarded by a boardwalk in order to prevent damage to this environment that these ducks call home. Likewise, this pond represents the importance of environmental health and how we must take initiative in environmental stewardship so that we may protect ecosystems like these, not only for the health of the creatures and plants that live there, but for our own health as well.

Ice Melt and Road Salt = Public Health
We are all too familiar with how slippery and scary our roads and sidewalks can be during the winter. Driving and even walking anywhere is usually pretty dangerous and we cautiously tip toe along trying not to die. On a particularly icy day I saw seven missionaries at the MTC go to the hospital with injuries from slipping on the ice. When ice melt and road salt are used on the ground, it makes it much safer for us to walk and drive on, increasing the well-being of the public.

Classrooms = Public Health. I was not able to attend school last semester and my brain got burnt out! But now that I'm back my mind is a lot healthier! This is also the Intro to Health classroom where we are educated about how important it is to learn and keep updated about our health.

Public Health, Prevention, and PCL's

The other day I injured my knee while skiing. Ski Patrol was helping me out and as I lay in the snow staring up at them, I thought to myself, "If only I had brought my Public Health sticker..." Patrols help watch out for the public and signs are placed on the mountain in congested areas to let people know to slow down. Insta-care, doctors, and knee braces help prevent further damage to injuries.

Hand Washing and Public Health

One of the most sure fire ways to prevent and reduce the spread of diseases is through proper hand washing, which most people fail to do. Good technique requires at least 30 seconds of scrubbing, and every time I am in a public restroom, I see customers and employees alike wet their hands, rub soap around, and rinse in five seconds flat. I think one way to improve overall public health is to educate the public on the importance of  proper hand washing everywhere they go.

An Effective Garbage Removal System= Public Health

Next to a proper sewage system, one of the most effective ways of preventing the spread of disease in society is to have an effective garbage removal system. Without weekly trash pickup, people would have to burn or bury their waste near their homes. Trash could be consumed by animals, and diseases they contracted from it could easily spread to humans. Trash would also get into our rivers and stream and contaminate our drinking water. Garbage removal is public health.

Covering your cough and having clean hands is Public Health!
I feel that one of the best ways we can help to stop the spread of disease is to cover our mouths and always make sure that we wash our hands often. By doing this, we aren't helping to spread any diseases that we my have. This is public health.

"Keeping it Clean at the Gym"
The student gym in the RB has these sanitary wipes to clean off your equipment when you're done. These wipes help stop the spread of germs in a public place, which is one of the major themes in public health. (Also, the fact that this free gym is available for students is an example of public health itself.)

Organic Food = Public Health
In the Smith's Grocery Store, there is a sign that gives 5 reasons to buy Organic. I don't necessarily think that Organic food in general is Public Health, however, the sign is next to the produce section and promotes healthy eating. The 5 reasons promote eating healthy foods, supporting local farmer's, and being aware of a balanced diet for you and your family! Providing people with information that helps them make healthy choices is Public Health

Biohazard Bins= Public Health

Disposing of biohazards such as sharps from hospitals, tubings for infusions and plasma donations and  any other disposable supplies used on patients in designated impermeable "BIOHAZARD" bins is public health. By abiding by this OSHA regulation, blood born pathogens are restricted and eventually destroyed reducing the the cause and spread of infections exponentially.  This protects patients, physicians and even those that have to clean up the mess afterwards. Using disposable supplies and sterile equipment is also a form of public health so infections aren't passed on from patient to patient.

Trash=Public

Public Health has to do with our environment. Since our trash, garbage, and public waste facilities can effect our health. Trash is public health, this is public health!

Delicious Fruit=Public Health.
This fruit is essential in keeping us healthy. Not only does it support the local economy by buying fresh fruit from local farmers markets but it gives all those who consume it a healthy diet and lifestyle to ward off illness.

Tyler Clonts

"Eating in a sanitary environment"

This is Public Health. Food and water are essentials to our existence.  Keeping our apartments and kitchens clean is essential to eliminate and reduce illnesses.  It's good to have a constant reminder of cleanliness.

"Sleeping your way to better health"

This is Public Health. Sleep and rest of the mind and body is an essential need for overall health. Having a regular sleep cycle is important to maintain good health. And resting where you can is not only a bonus, but a skill.

weight=public health

Grant Zimmerman

The nation has a growing epidemic of obesity and it is very important to maintain a healthy weight and good eating habits. It is a all of our responsibilities to help educate our youth so that they understand the dangers and the importance of good health

Sports = Public Health

Playing sports, like basketball, is a great help in the progression of public health. As we get our children involved in physical activities when they are young, the habits formed at these young ages will affect how they live their lives later on. If we help get exercise a part of society, it will help improve public health by helping people to get healthy and to stay healthy.

Keyboard=Public Health

Stopping the spread of germs is one of the biggest aspects of Public Health, which means we need to keep our hands and surfaces like this public computer keyboard clean!  Things like phones and keyboards are touched all of the time but never cleaned, making the great ways to transmit diseases.  When was the last time you cleaned your keyboard?

Exercise = Public Health

Since Public Health is partly about preventing personal or pandemic health disasters in the future, exercising is Public Health. Intramurals at BYU encourage us and our friends to exercise regularly and omit the excuse that we're too busy or too poor to go to the gym. Exercise can decreases the chances for Type 2 Diabetes, Heart disease, Hypertension, Stroke, and many more life threatening diseases.

Drinking Facilities = Public Health

Produced for the public's benefit, drinking fountains represent Public Health. Each time a fountain is installed, it is inspected by a government official and is given a "guarantee of quality." Fountains promote the healthy decision to drink water (say, over soda) and are regulated for our safety.

Children = Public Health

Public Health is really all about us. Especially the rising generation as they begin to discover the world around them. I taught my little brother a little bit about what Public Health means and asked him to wear the sticker to school. Educating children about hygiene, physical activity, diet, and other health principles is key to growing a generation that will be healthy and aware of what's going on around them.

THIS IS PUBLIC HEALTH: Recycling Bins
Recycling bins are public health because having them available in our community encourages people to sort their trash and use the appropriate bin (paper, plastic, aluminum cans, etc). Recycling helps cut down the amount of waste that goes into landfills, which ultimately saves land and reduces harmful pollutants. This helps keep our environment clean from contamination and keeps the community happy. This is public health!

THIS IS PUBLIC HEALTH: Healthy Vending Machine
This vending machine is public health because it breaks the stereotypical vending machine filled with candy bars and soda. This one was filled with fruit and veggies as well as tuna sandwiches and healthy muffins. If healthy food such as this was available to students on campus, they would be more likely to purchase it than if they had to get it from a grocery store. This is public health!

Lockers = Public Health!

1. Providing lockers for students means students have somewhere to store all their heavy books that may otherwise cause back pain and injury if hauled around in a backpack all day.
2. Also, lockers provide a convenient on-campus place for student to store their exercise clothes and shoes, which promotes physical activity.
3. Lastly, a locker is a great place to store a healthy lunch from home so student don't have to rely on fast food, promoting healthy diet. :)

SKI LIFT = Public Health
I put my sticker on this ski lift because snowboarding is one way I love to exercise in the winter.  By having these resorts, the public is able to exercise in a safe manner.  These lifts are also wind-powered, and that is eco-friendly.

Fire alarms = public health
This is a fire alarm and represents public health because in the case of a fire, the fire alarm can save lives.  The fire alarm warns everyone of a potential hazardous fire causing everyone to exit the building.  Without fire alarms people could become trapped inside burning buildings.  Good thing these are installed in public buildings.

Austin Simons

Treatment facilities = public health
I work as a shift coordinator and med manager in a facility for troubled youth. This represents public health to me by trying to reach out to youths with issues at an early age so that they may lead successful lives. Treatment facilities are set up privately and by the state to intervene and change negative behaviors in the lives of troubled youth today. Everyone deserves a fair chance at life.

Public Health = People's Health

We are only as healthy as the people who depend on us. Public health, for me, is helping people make correct decisions - teaching them to maximize their resources - in the name of a healthier lifestyle. Public health is helping people in need.

Public Benches=Public Health

During the semester we all get really busy and tend to run around to meet all of our appointments.  Throughout the day our bodies need to rest for a bit, so to me, public benches are part of public health.  It is healthy to sit down for a minute and let our bodies relax.
