Karlie Mitchell

I posted a article on an oil spill near Willard Bay in Utah

I asked family members, friends and roommates there reaction about this oil spil.

Q: Do you believe that environmental crises affect you/your family today?

#1 I knew that things like this happened today but wasn’t aware that they happened so much. It hasn’t really affected my family.

#2 It’s scary and makes me more aware of when I go to recreation parks, and lakes.  You always have to be aware of what is going on around you.

#3 I have heard about this before, but never thought it would happen in my community or affect my family.

#4 It makes me nervous about my children, what type of things are they going to have to face.  Oil spills can be dangerous.

#5 I think its interesting because I’m from California and right by the beach there is a nuclear power plant and the only difference I notice is that it makes the water warmer.

#6 It makes me more aware of my surroundings and how even the air that we breath could be contaminated and making us sick.

#7 I was really surprised by this happening.  I didn’t know that these things still happened today.  I hope that I can keep my children protected.

#8 What? Are you serious I didn’t know that stuff like that happened and affected that many people.

#9 I hope that they clean up this oil spill before summer hits?  I cannot wait to go boating, with my family at Willard Bay, it is quality family time.

#10 I need to start paying more attention to the news.  I had no idea.

Other Questions

Q: Do you believe that environmental crises affect you/your family today?

An environmental crisis has never affected my community or me personally until this past year.  A gas line broke and is leaking around Willard Bay area.  It is not affecting our every day lives, but still is scary.  It has made me more aware of these types of situations and makes me want to be more careful and aware of my surroundings.

Q: How do environmental tragedies affect you on a daily basis? Why should we care about them?

They do not affect me on a daily basis until it happens in my community or in a loved ones community.  It makes me want to be more aware of my surroundings and make the world a better place.

Q: Why should we care about something that happened over 30 years ago?

We should care about something that happened 30 years ago because you never know that it may affect you in later years, especially in the love canal example.  We always need to be aware of our surroundings and learn from our mistakes so we can continually become better people.
