Dan Barnett

I showed an article that had to do with the big oil spill in the gulf of Mexico and the Love Canal.

Please read/skim the articles. And post why you think we should we care about something that happened over 30 years ago?

#1
It is pretty insane how much the environment is affected by people. The worst is that so many things that were happening in the 60's and early 70's before the all the environmental Acts we are now paying for today. It is disgusting how much companies are willing to do/pay to keep it away from the public and government. Everyone seems to want the easy way out but no one is willing to own up to their mistakes!
#2
I think that lessons from the past are important for the future. We learn from our mistakes and then take necessary actions to prevent things like this from happening. Thanks for sharing! It really scares you that these kinds of things can impact the world in so many ways!
#3
we have to learn from the past so that we can plan for the future and avoid such tragedies
#4
Mistakes happen, but we should definitely try to prevent such tragedies at all costs.
#5
The past is a huge deal. We may not have to find the same diseases but techniques used to solve could help in solving different problems, or outbreaks faster.
#6
Defiantly important to learn from the past, but remember that the past is just that...past. No need to dwell on it because there is nothing you can do about it. Let's gain education and work together to make the world we live in as safe as possible!
#7
Yes it is Defiantly important to to those things.
#8
Wow! I hadn’t heard about that. I knew about 3 mile, but not this.
#9
I hadn’t known about that.
#10
I knew about it, but wow.
#11
They should’ve planned this better!
#12
Wow! I knew about this, but something like this happened in my state.
#13
WOW!

My own reaction:

Please (choose 1 of the following) read the article/ watch the following movie clip. Were you aware that environmental tragedies of this magnitude still exist today? [Post your article here].

I was aware that things like this are happening today still, however I believe that they should happen less and less often as we as a people become more mature in our abilities to take care of our planet.

Please (choose 1 of the following) read the article/ watch the following movie clip. How do environmental tragedies affect you on a daily basis? Why should we care about them? [Post your article here].

I believe that I am not directly affected by these tragedies, however I believe that most people are indirectly effected by environmental tragedies. For example when the oil rig spilled its oil in the gulf of Mexico gas prices went up.

Please (choose 1 of the following) read the article/ watch the following movie clip.  Why should we care about something that happened over 30 years ago? [Post your article here].

I believe that we should care about things from the past because we can learn from the past and learn how to prevent making the same mistakes.
