Katie Ridge - Love Canal Report

These responses were to the Love Canal videos, and also another post about the major oil spills that happened a few years ago.

Based on the impact environmental tragedies affect you/your family how likely are you to take action against disasters like this one?
I don’t know of any large scale environmental tragedies that are affecting me or my family currently.  However, after doing this research, it is evident that they happen quite often!  I think if I was in the Love Canal situation, I would definitely take action against it.  I put my family above all else, and if their health and wellbeing was in danger, I am sure we would speak out against whoever we needed to.

Environmental tragedies still exist today; what can we do today to mitigate these problems.
I think that step one in solving any of these types of problems would be to tell people!  I had no idea about some of the effects that hazardous waste could have on newborns and children.  It is horrifying!  I think that if people knew more about the situation then more could be done.

Do you believe that environmental crises affect you/your family today?
Originally, I would have said no.  But after all of the research, I realized that my family and I may be under the effect of an environmental tragedy and not even know it!  Large scale issues like global warming, or unsustainable fossil fuels probably affect people everywhere, even if it isn't very prevalent.
