I posted an article about bombs left in the ground in Germany after WWII and the love canal article with the question, "were you aware that environmental tragedies of this magnitude still exist today?" Here are the comments I received:
1. I had no idea things like this still happened that is scary.
2. Oh my gosh, that is horrifying. This is why we need more people like you, Lindsey.
3. If I weren't already a hypochondriac, I am now!
4. This is scary! I wonder if things like that are happening here?
5. Those poor kids... Why hadn't a more modern version of an environmental safety group investigate to ensure it was safe for long time conditions? I think we may have come along with rules and regulations with waste disposal, but this story is just a horror story. I have never thought about what my house is on...
6. Wow that is crazy! I did not know that.
7. My dear Great Lakes. That's too close to Canada for my liking. At least those Canadians know how to take care of their side of North America!
8. I'm sure there are other areas that have or will have similar concerns because of not being managed properly. The authors point that landfill property exchanges hands frequently is concerning too because lack of ownership can mean a lack of caring to fix a problem.
9. It's amazing how careless we can get sometimes, we don't very often think of the consequences future generations will face because of things we do today.
10. I am glad we have programs in place that help take care of these problems and help prevent problems in the future. It is sad that so many people have to suffer over things we could prevent.
11. Wow how sad, and to think that this can happen again is a little terrifying. To fix the problems from all of these landfills would be almost impossible I would think. I sure hope this doesn't happen again to soon.
