Should we be concerned about environmental hazards on a daily basis?
Rick- No, not on a daily basis. It’s obviously
important but is a rare occurrence. It
definitely would be a concern if I lived in threatening circumstances to
environmental hazards but I don’t feel that way.
Mekal- Yes,
because if we don’t take action on a daily basis it is going to become a
greater and greater concern.
Trevor- No, It’s good to be smart and maintain
situations in the environment but we shouldn’t be paranoid about it. It is
important however to ensure we are being careful, I guess there is a
possibility of an outbreak but we should let the people who are in charge of
regulating things do their job and be concerned
only when issues arise.
Rachel- aware but not concerned. Do your research on
where you are living and your environmental situations. It is important to take
care of the earth, recycle and take care of your environment but the earth is
also here for us to use and benefit from. Apart from that this let the FDA do
their job and not be overly concerned about conserving the environment. Cutting
down trees for example is not good for the earth but it is good for people. We
can replant trees afterwards but they are still meant for us to use in the
first place.
Greg- individually it’s not as big of an issue as
it’s made out to be. The media blows up stories as they cover them. However,
with a world that has an increasing population this is a concern for growing
industry. We should be concerned about
some of the bi products that may result in rapid construction. Safety measures
shouldn’t be forgotten and I believe it will become a greater issue over the
coming years.
Tia- Not every day, it is something to keep in mind
when we are considering where to live but it’s not something that we should
worry about upon waking up every day. Careful planning beforehand can
contribute to resolving these issues.
Tyler- We should be concerned about environmental hazards
around us to the extent that we are always trying to provide the best lifestyle
possible for all the humans on Earth and showing respect for God’s creations. We should not put the health of the
environment above the wellbeing of humans. Of course, the environment and the
wellbeing of humans are closely related, thus, it is a delicate balance.
Beth- It is a concern for me. I am an athlete and am aware of the poor air
quality here in Provo. It is hard on the lungs and I am concerned about future
health problems
Taylor- I believe that it is a frequent concern in
public housing. I have seen lots of mysterious mold in my boyfriend’s
apartment.
Evan- We can afford to be a little more concerned
but there is already a greater amount of regulation since the 1950s. People
should participate in personal recycling and waste management to keep our
communities clean and healthy but apart from that we shouldn’t be too
concerned.
My personal optinion-
Environmental hazards are certainly not one of my
daily concerns. Though important and very relevant to society, they don’t
become a worry for me until there is a clear and visible issue threatening the
public’s health. I believe that the FDA is doing a decent job overall at taking
preventative measures to protect us and until there is a problem, I don’t think
anyone really pays attention. It’s just not something that crosses our mind
until there is an issue. This perspective also depends upon the amount of
threat for an accident is present.
I was aware that tragedies like that of “Love Canal”
still exist today. However, I know that these incidents are less common due to
protective measures. A neighboring high school in my area was shut down for a
few weeks due to an amount of asbestos found in the basement of the building. I
am also currently moving into an apartment complex that has previously been
covered with lead paint. There are certain chemicals that pose a threat to the
public’s health. All of which, we should be aware of. However, we don’t need to
worry if we are keeping ourselves informed and taking preventative measures to
protect ourselves.
What preventative measures can we take? It’s just
that, stay informed as far up to date environmental conditions are provided. We
should also do our part in not contributing to the any potential environmental
hazards. This means that we should be careful not to litter or contribute to
public waste.
