I posted the Love Canal video, along with an article discussing
the three major oil spills that have occurred this past week. I asked “Were you aware that environmental
tragedies of this magnitude still exist today?
Comments:
-Great post, learned a lot!
-How have I not heard of this?
-This is ridiculous, what a waste of oil.
-Maybe I should go into the oil piping industry, seeing as
messing up seems to be the norm.
-My cousin’s from Niagara Falls…this explains a lot. Joking
aside, no I had never heard of the love canal incident. I did see something
about the oil spills though.
-Terrible… How do these things even happen?
-Great…now I’m paranoid something’s in my water.
-Another spill? Wow, something’s definitely going on.
-Heard about the first spill. Didn't realize there had been
two more!
-That’s just sad. We really need to start taking care of our
planet before it’s too late.
Do you
believe that environmental crises affect you/your family today?
I think that environmental crises affect everybody in some
way. Even if you don’t experience the direct repercussions of an
accident/incident, it can still impact your life. We’re all a part of the same planet. When it hurts, we hurt.
Based on the impact
environmental tragedies affect you/your family how likely are you to take action
against disasters like this one?
I guess it would depend on how severely my family and I are
affected by a disaster. I don’t know if I
would take action in terms of a law suit, but if I was heavily impacted by a
disaster, I would at least try to raise awareness regarding the issue and if
applicable, write to my local government representatives and try to create some
change.
How do
environmental tragedies affect you on a daily basis? Why should we care about
them?
Growing up in Hong Kong, the first thought that comes to mind
is pollution. Pollution, whether it’s in
the air, or in the water, affects everybody in the city. It’s important to be aware of environmental
issues because they can have a big impact on our health. Not only do they have negative consequences
on our health, but they also affect populations on a mass scale.
