I posted an article about the Fukushima nuclear meltdown that came as a result from a tsunami caused by an earthquake. Because of the meltdown, many people had to leave their homes.

Question: In your opinion are environmental hazards something we should be concerned about on a daily basis.
Comments:
1. "I don't care. If it doesn't bother me, then I'm not going to be worried."
2. "I think we should better prepared if something happens. If something happened right now, we'd have a big problem."
3. "Probably. It's not something I think about everyday so I don't worry about it."
4. "Yes, my family was in Japan when the meltdown happened, so I've realized how real it can be."
5. "That kind of thing has never happened in my neighborhood so why should I worry?"
6. "We should be more aware of what's happening globally. In some way it'll affect us."
7. "Disasters that occur in the environment will affect us directly or indirectly. We should be more concerned about what's going on."
8. "Even if we don't care about the environment, we should each do our part by taking better care of the earth."
9. "I don't think it should be a daily concern, but people should at least be more aware."
10. "I think it's sad that tragedies like Love Canal occur. If people were only willing to prevent disasters instead of trying to fix, some tragedies could be averted. "
My reactions:
1. Why should we care about something that happened over 30 years ago?
We should care because a disaster similar to Love Canal could easily happen again. By knowing what's happened in the past, we can better prepare for future tragedies.
2. In your opinion are environmental hazards something we should be concerned about on a daily basis.
No, I don't think we should worry that something will happen daily, but we should be prepared if a disaster occurs.
3. Were you aware that environmental tragedies of this magnitude still exist today?
Yes, these days it's easy to get information about environmental disasters because the news is always on TV or the internet as soon as it occurs.
