My friend Lexi spent two hours at the pool yesterday and woke up with a burn. Sunbathing can lead to cancer, varying in severity and prognosis. Primary prevention public health programs to educate the public on the dangers of sunbathing, burns, and the importance of sunscreen have been around for decades. When people become aware of the dangers of sunburns, a shift in attitudes, beliefs, and actions develop. This is public health.
