Rachel Harris Community Trends

I interviewed a nurse named Jane Mcarter from a small town in Oregon called Enterprise near my own hometown. There are about 600 people in her town and she says that there were a few current trends in health that were/are common in the area.
The first is the flu. She said that recently she has been seeing a lot of raising cases in the area. There has also been a shortage in flu vaccinations and with her town being so small (there are only 3 people that work at the clinic) she says that they still need more. The flu is probably one of the main trends in Eastern Oregon right now.
Another one of the top health issues in Eastern Oregon is substance abuse. They are seeing an increase with teens in the area. They are easily accessible in the area and so many choose to follow that pattern/style of life. They are working on preventative measures to fix this problem. They are developing programs to help aid the movement of this issue.
Birth control is also another issue in the area. Even though they are small, they have noticed a large number of people using it. A lot of teens are coming for it and they want to use it. She thinks it’s because the area they cover is such a wide range that it differs, but overall they have seen an increase.
I don’t think this is a trend, but they have noticed an increased amount of older people in their community. The community is small, but there is an increased amount of older adults in the area. Many of them have lived in the area for a long time. They don’t get very many people moving in though. The majorty are older adults.
Out of their office they also do healthcare things. They have seen an increased amount of women that are using one of the many aids for food. They have seen an increased amount of them on WIC.  Although the town that this building is located in is small, this building covers a large portion of the state of Oregon. A lot of the other towns are smaller too, but it’s a very diverse area.
