Living here in Harrisville and my wife working as a nurse in Ogden, I have often wondered what my wife helps treat. I decided to interview one of the doctors that she works with. His name is Dr. David Workman, General Family Practice to find out what is trending and what types of patients he sees.
1.       The biggest trend that Dr. Workman has seen is knee problems in elderly patients. He attributes this to an increase in temperature outside. Many elderly patients have started to walk and exercise outside and are having more problems with their knees. He stresses that people need to stretch first. He also stresses to know your limitations.
2.       The next thing he has been seeing is an increase in seasonal allergies. This is also due to the warmer weather. He says that many of the elderly need to make sure they get check-ups before they go outside. This will help prevent sudden attacks. This will also help know where their body is at physically.
3.       He is also seeing an increase in anemia. He attributes this to an increase in healthier living in seniors. Seniors are learning to live on healthier foods. However, this has also led them to eat less red meat. By doing so they are losing the iron in the meat that they need.
4.       He says he is still seeing the flu. Seniors are more likely to get the flu. He stresses the importance of getting the flu vaccine. He says to make sure we do everyday things like washing the hands and using paper towels. This will help prevent most people from getting the flu.
5.       The last thing Dr. Workman has said he has seen is an increase in the cold. Many people believe that a cold comes only during the winter, it does not. As with the flu, he stresses keeping yourself sanitary. With the warm up outside more and more people are interacting with each other. This is the biggest cause in the increase.
