The Essence of Public Health

Guardrails are almost always there when we are driving our cars, going along in our busy lives. They aren't particularly aesthetic, and most of the time, we probably do not even notice them because we are enjoying the other things that stand out more, like Bridal Veil Falls in the background of this photograph. When it counts though, and things get a out of control, guardrails are there to protect  us. Guardrails do not prevent every danger or accident, but they can mitigate their effects. That is the essence of public health; we do not always see them, but they are there. When it counts, they are there to help and to protect. "This is public health."
