As we were learning about the food guide in my nutrition class, my professor included this:
"Milk is the number one food source of three of the four nutrients the Dietary Guidelines identified as nutrients of public health concern — calcium, vitamin D and potassium".
It made me think about how essential the foods we eat are to the overall health of the community. When a community does not have way to buy foods for a healthy diet, it becomes a public health concern. Decisions that seem small and insignificant can drastically improve the overall health of a community, especially if they have adequate resources.
